Many software professionals use H-1B visas to travel to the US
The US has announced that it will draw another lottery for H-1B visas. This will give a second chance to hundreds of Indian IT professionals who did not succeed in the first lottery.
The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has decided to hold a second lottery after several computerized lotteries conducted earlier this year did not provide sufficient numbers of H-1B visas.
However, it is rare when another lottery is drawn for this visa.
“We have recently determined that we need to complete the number of visa allocations for Fiscal Year 2022,” USCIS said in a statement.
The selection for the second lottery has been started from the already submitted forms. However, the application filing period will start from August 2 to November 3.
Earlier, the application filing period for those registered for the financial year 2022 was from April 1 to June 30.
USCIS said that only people who have been selected for registration for the financial year 2022 can apply for the second lottery.
Applications for the second H-1B visa lottery must be filled out during the filing period given on the notice of selection of registration at the correct service center.
This visa is very popular among Indian IT professionals going to the US.
However, there has been opposition in the US Congress to the large number of Indian professionals reaching the US using this visa.
For this reason, the conditions for applying for this visa have been tightened in the last few years.
