Addressing the media on Tuesday, Guterres said that ‘we are facing a situation that we did not expect. We have to overcome this challenge.

Referring to the latest clashes on the Ukraine border, the Secretary General said that he was deeply hurt by this He said there was a possibility of increased firing along the border and it would put people’s lives in danger. 

Criticizing Russia’s move to recognize the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of eastern Ukraine as independent states, Guterres said it was a clear violation of Kiev’s sovereignty.

said, ‘Let me be frankly. Russia’s decision to declare Donetsk and Luhansk as independent countries is a clear violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. 

Guterres said such a unilateral decision not only violated the UN Charter but also went against the General Assembly’s “Friendly Relations Declaration”. The United Nations calls for an immediate ceasefire and law and order on the Ukraine border.
