Russia Ukraine Conflict: Russia Will Investigate The Death Of Indian Student Naveen In Ukraine, Russian Ambassador Expressed Grief

Russia Ukraine Conflict: Russia’s nominated ambassador Denis Alipov said on Wednesday that Russia will investigate the death of a 21-year-old Indian medical student in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. 

Naveen Shekharappa Gyangoudar, a fourth year medical student at Kharkiv National Medical University, died in Kharkiv on Tuesday.

Following the incident, India asked envoys from both Russia and Ukraine to ensure “immediate safe passage” to Indian nationals who are still in Kharkiv and other conflict zones.

“I would like to express my condolences to the family of Naveen Shekharappa Gyangoudar and the entire Indian nation,” Alipov said at a media briefing.

“Russia will do everything possible to ensure the safety of Indian citizens in areas of intense conflict… and will conduct a proper investigation into this unfortunate incident,” he said.

Naveen was a resident of Chalgeri in Haveri district of Karnataka.

On Tuesday night, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said Naveen’s body had been identified and taken to the university morgue and Indian officials were in touch with the local administration in Kharkiv to bring back the body.

Shringla said that according to Naveen’s friends, he had gone out to buy some groceries and was on a line at a shop, Shringla said, adding that the situation is not clear at all. 

India is conducting a massive rescue operation to bring back Indians stranded in Ukraine.
