Washington: It has been 19 years since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack in America, but the wounds of that incident on people’s minds are still green. The terrorists targeted two towers of the World Trade Center in New York and the US Defense Office Pentagon. These attacks in America, the world’s most powerful and considered strong in intelligence matters, shook not only the Americans but the entire world.
The morning of 11 September 2001
Those who work at the World Trade Center in New York were hardly aware that the place where they go daily for their work in the morning is going to be the worst attack. The terrorists were fully prepared. They used passenger aircraft for these attacks, which they had already abducted. Four passenger planes were hijacked simultaneously and the US would be able to do something in the direction that the attack took place.
It was 8:46 am when an American Airlines plane first crashed into the North Tower of the Trade Center. A plane also hit the southern tower 17 minutes later. People suddenly could not understand what happened. People started jumping from tall buildings to save their lives. In a few minutes, the towers of the World Trade Center, which were proud of America, became grounded, while on some floors there was a fire for one to two hours.
There was destruction everywhere
After these attacks on both towers of the World Trade Center, the US agencies were still in control that an aircraft crashed into the Pentagon at 9.37 am. More than 3000 people died in these attacks in America. People who came out of the house for work in the morning could never return home. There was an atmosphere of chaos in New York. Millions of tons of debris were collected as the trade tower and a nearby building collapsed.
Later, an aircraft used in the attack went down in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, whose debris spread far and wide. Everywhere was a scene of ruin and destruction. There was fear in the people. The whole world was shaken by this incident. It changed the world view of terrorism and forced them to unite and deal with this collective menace. The US gained widespread support in the war on terrorism.
