New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 318 km long Saryu canal project going from Bahraich, Shravasti and Balrampur to Gorakhpur from Balrampur today (December 11) at around 1 pm, which will prove helpful in dealing with the problem of flood and drought in Purvanchal. can.
The project will provide water to irrigate more than 14 lakh hectares of land and will benefit about 29 lakh farmers of the region. PM Modi tweeted on Friday (December 10) evening that the work of the long-pending Saryu Canal National Project has been completed expeditiously as per the commitment by our government in the last four years and water resources will benefit our farmers and ‘ Ease of Living’ will help.
The PM wrote that you will be surprised to know that the work on the Saryu Canal National Project started in 1978 but for decades this project was never completed.
Expenses increased and people’s problems also increased. The project, which was incomplete for four decades, has been completed in four years.
He further wrote that I will be on the occasion of inauguration of Saryu Canal National Project tomorrow, 11th December in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh in a special program.
This project will solve the irrigation related problems in Eastern UP and will help our hardworking farmers.
Saryu Canal National Project The said canal consisting of 318 km long main canal connecting Ghaghra, Saryu, Rapti, Banganga and Rohin rivers and 6,600 km of link canals connected to it will be connected to 9 districts of Purvanchal, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Gonda, Basti, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar. 25 to 30 lakh farmers of Sant Kabir Nagar and Gorakhpur will get benefit.
The project, which will cost about Rs 9,802 crore, will provide water for irrigation to 14.04 lakh hectares and reduce the risk of catastrophic floods that occur in different areas every year due to water coming from Nepal.
This project was pending for a long time. This project is one of the 99 projects in the country that Prime Minister Modi chose to complete.
Work on this project started in 1978 but the previous governments did not pay much attention to it.
The said project has now been completed due to the efforts of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Bahraich District Magistrate Dinesh Chandra Singh said in this regard that the Bahraich administration has been alerted in view of the Prime Minister’s visit to Balrampur. In view of this, a control room has been made.
Bahraich Superintendent of Police Sujata Singh said that the origin of the canal is the Saryu Barrage of Bahraich built on the Ghaghra and Saryu rivers. Water will be released from the barrage at the time of inauguration of the project.
