The government has warned companies providing app-based cab services, including Ola and Uber, that strict action will be taken against them if they do not revamp their systems and address rising consumer complaints.
A senior government official gave this information on Tuesday. The government held a meeting with these companies on Tuesday.
Complaints of unfair trade practices alleged by him were discussed in the meeting. A large number of consumers have complained about the cab drivers forcing the consumers to cancel the booking after accepting it.
Because of this, consumers are fined for cancellation. We informed them about the increasing consumer complaints against their platform, Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh said after the meeting. We also gave them the figures.
We have asked them to improve their system and redress consumer complaints, otherwise strict action will be taken against them.
He said that there are a lot of complaints on the ‘Jago Grahak Jago’ helpline, which shows the resentment of the customers against the cab companies.
Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare said that the cab companies should solve the problem immediately.
