Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday met Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda, amid the latest stir in Maharashtra politics over the alleged displeasure of senior Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde.
According to information received from sources, this meeting of both the leaders took place at Nadda’s residence.
The meeting of the two leaders comes at a time when reports emerged that Shinde, a minister in the Maharashtra government, is not in Mumbai but is camping with some MLAs at a hotel in Gujarat’s Surat city.
Later Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut told reporters in Mumbai that it was true that some MLAs could not be contacted on Monday night after the Legislative Council elections, but the party has now managed to reach out to some of them.
He said, “Eknath Shinde is not in Mumbai but contact has been made with him.” Raut, however, did not elaborate on the number of MLAs accompanying Shinde.
A day earlier, the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance suffered a setback after it lost the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections.
Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress are constituents of the MVA. Earlier, the ruling coalition has suffered a setback in the Rajya Sabha elections.
Meanwhile, BJP’s Maharashtra unit president Chandrakant Patil, while talking to reporters in Mumbai regarding the latest political developments, said that the party is keeping an eye on these developments.
He said it was too early to say whether these events would take the form of any change. He told that former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has left for Delhi and he will meet the national leaders of the party.
Union Minister Narayan Rane, who belongs to Maharashtra, said in a tweet, “Very good Eknath ji.
You have taken the right decision at the right time. Otherwise you too could have had the same fate as Anand Dighe.” Dighe was one of the prominent leaders of Shiv Sena.
He was from Thane in Maharashtra. He died in the year 2001.
